La Duna Centro Ecológico Scholarship Spotlight

Inner-Connection: Journey Into The Soul Of Nature Scholarship Award Winner

We are pleased to announce our scholarship award winner for the upcoming November retreat Inner-Connection: Journey into the Soul of Nature, held at La Duna Centro Ecológico November 2-6, 2016.

Luis Tentindo is an interdisciplinary artist and arts educator focusing on the crossovers between movement, puppetry and visual art. From 1994 to 2008 he danced in several renowned NYC-based contemporary dance companies. Luis has participated in residencies at Bogliasco, The MacDowell Colony, and Djerassi. His original puppet-theater work was presented at St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Theater for the New City and Dixon Place in NYC, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara. He also presented performances at Skirball Cultural Center, Fowler Ethnographic Museum, and at XFest! (SIUE). His work has received support from the Jim Henson Foundation and he recently presented a workshop at the National Puppetry Festival at UCONN. He completed an MFA degree in Dance at WAC/D, where he was also a teaching associate, in 2016.

We asked Louis what he planned to do with therenewed energy after the retreat?
I’ve had the good fortune to be able to pursue my dreams and passions as an artist, as a dancer / choreographer, and as an arts educator engaged in community and alternative educational spaces. Having time to rest and reflect further on just how I can refine my live and work priorities is just what I need right now as I feel that I’ve been on a treadmill, mostly, of other people’s design. The retreat will help me to strengthen my resolve in the necessary life skills of moving from an empowered and autonomous space. A space that holds close my values and ethics as a matter of lived reality. From this situated place, I believe that my personal life, creative practice and teaching will have a far broader impact and will hopefully alleviate my current sense of burnout. There’s much more to all of this, but I hope this helps to paint a picture for you.

We can tell Luis will make a great fit at our upcoming retreat and we are excited to have such a talented and driven individual be part of our group. Each person that attends makes the experience at La Duna that much more special. If you want to join our retreat or be considered for future scholarship opportunities send an email to gabriela@ecobaja.com.
