La Duna Ecology Center

This beautiful solstice found us with renewed energy and many new dreams for 2014. La Duna continues to grow as a gathering center where people find solitude to reflect, and no distraction to be able to communicate and share in depth with one another. We are grateful for all the beauty and peace brought to us this past year. Good old friends and new friends have enriched our lives. Thank you all for being carriers of good will and good intentions. May this new sun find you all prospering and living your dreams, the ones that make you happy and whole! To the year of the seed, may we all be as beautiful and full of life, and may we find fertile ground to grow and flower. Come visit us soon! Gabriela

It seems just so close in our past when the nights were long and the North winds blew cold at night, chilly Winter for us down this beautiful Baja California peninsula. But now the days grow longer and day temperatures grow progressively warmer, yet nights are still cool and incredibly beautiful, a tapestry of stars.  Stargazing continues to be one of our favorite activities with our friend Mariana Ledesma, her story telling and guided tour of our starry night is a wonderful experience to share. Miguel Marquez Tavella continues to make the best artisan goat cheese from our small heard, and together with Pan de Les a wonderful European bread maker they make our guests relish on their well combined flavors.   Did I say goats! Photo by Nettie Adams As morning breaks and the constant shuffle of the waves comes softly as the light, I can smell the water, the morning dew. The beauty of the rebirth of the desert builds hope in me. After  years of too little water everything around La Duna seemed to barely survive, everything was contained with the least amount of movement, with the least amount of need. A long meditation. And then suddenly after building up heat and the stillness heavy, the first drops came, followed by an outcry of release, down pouring wetness soaking the dry earth. It injected a sparkle into the dormant bodies, it made them all dance, and jump, and run, and sing under the rain. It did not take long for the colors to appear, fresh tender leaves started to grow on every plant, on every inch of dirt, and as quick as in a couple of days you could see some flowers to start forming, and live just roar!
